Hello Lush Life Friends:
It’s been a default of mine to openly communicate to anyone and everyone that will listen, my disdain for Los Angeles.
This time around, after not having visited L.A. in quite some time, I have to say I had a pleasantly unexpected visit of the City of Angels.
Historically, it’s always been the culture of the city that has made me feel at a loss- the unapologetic vanity, the excessive name dropping, the incessant vocal fry that makes your skin crawl.
You either hate it, or love it, apparently. It’s very Los Angeles- and some would argue, it’s not Los Angeles at all.
Whatever your verdict, I had a spiritual reawakening this past visit to Los Angeles (dramatic, I know).
For many years, I’d shuffle myself in and out of L.A.- sauntering in for a day long work conference or meetings and shuttling back to San Francisco in a heartbeat.
Rarely an overnight, unless I absolutely had to. And extremely limited experiences- LAX to uber to hotel to Tindr headquarters (they were a corporate sponsor of my previous project for a number of years) to a random Beverly Hills or WeHo restaurant- and then, in reverse, back home.
You get it.
This time around, I was there for work (as a Style Advisor for BAACAL, I co-hosted the brand’s first SAMPLE SALE and Sip + Shop) but felt fortunate that I had more generous timing to explore, catch up with dear friends I haven’t seen in ages, and visit my usual haunts and designer showrooms at Melrose Place.
My going out calendar filled quickly, and I’m so fortunate to my dear friends Jeff, Jessica and Malik (hiiiiiiii) for the loveliest lunch and dinner dates around town. I have to come back soon!
Let’s get to the outfit diary:
*Sponsored Content: Today’s musing is lovingly sponsored by BAACAL, a beautiful brand helmed by noted fashion designer, Cynthia Vincent.
BAACAL is an ethically focused and sustainability contemporary designer providing you with luxury apparel in mid size and plus sizes. Independent, woman of color led and operated, and all pieces are hand stitched, sewn and cut in their studio in Los Angeles.
Aria is also a Style Advisor with the brand, so you’ll see stylings and musings from me ever so often for sartorial options for my mid-size and plus size subscribers seeking lovely forever pieces for their closet.
*Affiliate Links: I want to be transparent about how I earn a living. My curated edits feature affiliate links, which allow me to retain a commission for creating and promoting my content, and items I love, sort of like a referral fee. Should you decide to purchase, the brand is responsible with sending me a small commission for plug and promotion. This of course, is at no additional cost to the consumer.
Summer Work Wear For The Office
For my darlings looking for those stunning tailoring focused pieces for your wardrobe- be it classic shirting in premium cotton poplins, or tropical wool trousers one can wear to the office (and around town) without suffocating, you’re going to love these offerings.
Always classic. Only Cynthia Vincent could get me excited about menswear inspired pieces. I’m obsessed.
While I am talking about these lovely pieces from BAACAL, I want all of my lovelies to understand that fabric is what changes the game when it comes to the workwear that you can survive in during the summer.
Your buzz words are going to be “Cotton Poplin”, Linen/Linen Blend, Tropical Wool. Hybrids also work too (think Silk-Linen, Cotton Voile, Linen and Cotton Blends, etc).
If your workwear is polyester, it’s going to look beautiful and hold it’s shape- but you’re going to suffer in the heat. Polyester traps in heat (and moisture and odors and not in a good way). Paying attention to the label is going to allow you to look “Suited and Booted” without compromising comfort.
What I’m Wearing: The Perfect Shirt | BECCA Trousers | Bag is Bottega Veneta from Daniel Lee era (resort 2020 collection)
