these ladies designed their nail art for the festivities. the details!!!!
the artists and vendors were incredible- they had prints of Black art I’ve grown up seeing in churches and homes since I was a kid- as well as original paintings from artists I have yet to discover. My personal heavena. this dress has been staring at me for months (I’ve had for 2 years now), waiting to be reworn. I’ve only packed 3 outfits for my 3 week tour of the Cape, so everyone is probably sick of my outfit repeating. Dress is 2023/2024 Stine Goya.
When it’s perhaps easier and more affordable to decorate conferences and convenings (in this case, the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival MVAFF) with faux flowers, I loved that each space featured live floral arrangements- from orchids to hydrangeas. Stunning.
Attended an invitation only brunch at a private home in the vineyard with special guests Tabitha Brown + Joy Reid- and quite a sight to see a convening of Black women from across the country in one space. You had to be there- goosebumps. Tabitha asked me “How do I not know you” and I was too self conscious to ask for a selfie (not my style)- but I loved how gracious she was. Giselle and I also sat next to her at dinner days later and chatted, and she is just as lovely as she is on the internet- which made me love her work even more!
Linen Set is from VIVA VOCE from a small, size inclusive sustainability focused designer based in California (I can’t remember the brand name!)
I have been cheating on my strict “no sugar” diet the past few weeks, which has me in a haze (often with the “itis”) BUT it’s been heavenly. as soon as I get home, I’m back to my routine but it’s been so much fun losing my way on the road :)
The PR Director asked Giselle and I to put a “hold” on our calendar to return to the festivities next summer as guests. So cheers to new traditions! This is perhaps the most inspiring convening I’ve ever attended, my entire career. Wow wow wow. I have many stories of meeting my favorites and some of my personal sheroes (Ayana Pressley, Joy Reid, Nicole Ari Parker and many many more. More soon).
